2017 MADMEC Winner: A Salt Solution

10/23/2017 - MADMEC's 2017 grand prize went to student team "A Salt Solution," for a low-cost hydrogel that extracts uranium from water to provide fuel for nuclear power plants.  The winning material can also be used in desalination plants.  This year's second and third place participants won for a ship coating that protects against bacteria (the Dumbledore team), and for porous bricks made of geopolymers (Geoworks)    Learn more about the competition and 2017 winning inventions. The annual MADMEC competition is hosted by MIT’s Department of Materials Science and Engineering (DMSE) and sponsored by Saint-Gobain and Dow Chemical.
